Myanmar Nationals Demand Accountability for Checkpoint Arson in Mizoram

Aizawl, Sept 18: A group of Myanmar nationals based in Delhi has called on the United League of Arakan and its military faction, the Arakan Army, to look into the recent arson of a volunteer checkpoint in the Siaha district and hold those accountable.
The organization, known as India for Myanmar, reported that the Mara Thyutlia Py checkpoint located in Khaikhy village was set ablaze on Monday following a conflict involving Rakhine traders. They have also requested compensation for the victims and an official apology to the residents of Mizoram.
As per the group's statement, the conflict reportedly stemmed from delays in goods transportation due to rainy season challenges. They claimed that this dispute escalated into a violent assault on the volunteers overseeing the checkpoint.
Fortunately, the volunteers were able to flee, but the checkpoint was destroyed in the fire, according to the group.
India for Myanmar characterized the incident as grave, asserting that the attack jeopardized the safety of Indian citizens and resulted in property damage on Indian territory. They condemned the actions of the Rakhine merchants, emphasizing the troubling nature of the incident, especially considering the support provided by Mizoram residents to Myanmar nationals escaping political turmoil and conflict in their homeland.
The group further urged Myanmar nationals residing in India to adhere to local laws, community standards, and government regulations.
