Arrests Made in Murshidabad Violence Case
Kolkata: On Tuesday, authorities in West Bengal apprehended two siblings linked to the brutal slaying of a father and son during recent communal unrest in Murshidabad district, according to a senior police official.
These latest arrests bring the total number of individuals detained in connection with the violence, which erupted during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, to 221.
The suspects, Kalu Nadar and Dildar Nadar, hail from the same Jafrabad locality as the victims. A specialized investigation team has been established to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the killings.
Kalu was taken into custody in Murarai, located in Birbhum district, while Dildar was arrested near the India-Bangladesh border in Suti, Murshidabad.
The officer noted, "We have obtained CCTV footage from the vicinity, which has helped us identify several individuals involved in the incident, leading to these arrests."
The deceased, identified as Harogobindo Das and his son Chandan Das, were discovered in their home in Jafrabad, both suffering from multiple stab wounds.
In addition to these fatalities, a 21-year-old named Ijaz Momin, who was shot during the clashes at Sajur More in Suti, later died from his injuries in the hospital.
The violent protests resulted in injuries to approximately 18 police officers across various locations in Murshidabad.
In response to the unrest, authorities imposed restrictions and suspended internet services, vowing to take stringent action against those responsible for the riots.
