Four Arrested in Connection with Sonepur Murder

Sonepur: Authorities have apprehended four individuals linked to the murder of Ballabh Ksheti, a 45-year-old former village head and spouse of Gajabandha's current sarpanch, Basanti Ksheti, as reported by police on Tuesday.

The suspects have been named as Jogeswar Bhue, 42, from Brahmanipali; Gobinda Behera, 26, from Pandarapali; Dhananjay Pashayat, 40, and Hrusikesh Bagarti, 54, both from Gajabandha.

Following their arrest, the suspects were presented in the JMFC Court, where their requests for bail were denied, leading to their remand at the Sonepur Sub-Jail.

According to police reports, Ballabh was on his way home to Kendupali around 10 PM on July 10 when he was ambushed and attacked with sharp objects by a group approximately 2 kilometers from Gajabandha.

He was quickly transported to Dunguripali hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.

The motive behind the murder appears to stem from a land dispute involving Ballabh and Bhue, along with previous conflicts related to panchayat contract work with the other accused.

A case was initiated at Rampur police station following a complaint lodged by the victim's younger brother.

Subarnapur SP Narayan Nayak confirmed that the suspects admitted to their involvement in the crime, and a motorcycle used during the incident has been confiscated.

The investigation is ongoing, and police may request further remand of the suspects for in-depth questioning, according to the SP.
