Murder Mystery Unfolds: Meghalaya Police Reconstructs Crime Scene of Indore Businessman’s Death

Crime Scene Recreation in Sohra
On Tuesday, Meghalaya Police transported all suspects involved in the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, including his spouse Sonam, to Sohra for a reenactment of the crime scene, as reported by officials.
Raja was brutally murdered on May 23 during his honeymoon in the northeastern region. His wife Sonam, along with her alleged lover Raj and three hired assassins, has been apprehended in connection with the case.
According to a senior police official, the suspects were taken to a parking area above the gorge where Raja's body was discovered on June 2. They will be asked to recreate the events leading to Raja's demise based on their statements.
A forensic team has also arrived at the location to assist in the investigation.
Raja's decomposed remains were located in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls on June 2. Following the incident, Sonam fled and was later found in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 1,200 kilometers away, where she surrendered on June 9 after police arrested her boyfriend and the three hitmen.
Currently, the suspects are in the custody of Meghalaya Police, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining the case.
DGP I Nongrang stated that the SIT is exploring multiple angles in the investigation.
Nongrang expressed concern over the rapid animosity Sonam seemed to develop towards her husband shortly after their marriage, indicating that they are investigating all possibilities. She assured that sufficient evidence is being gathered to clarify the case.
The hitmen, who were friends of Raj, allegedly attacked Raja with a machete in front of Sonam at the Weisawdong Falls parking lot before disposing of his body in the gorge.
After the murder, Sonam fled the state, traveling through Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh to reach Indore.
However, she left her 'mangalsutra' and a ring in her luggage at a homestay in Sohra, raising suspicions among the police.
Additionally, a video shared by a tourist on social media has gained traction, showing Sonam and Raja together shortly before the murder. Police have confirmed the video's authenticity.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem mentioned that Sonam admitted to being involved in the conspiracy to kill her husband.
Initially, it seemed that Sonam and her boyfriend had hired the hitmen, but it was later revealed that the three attackers were close friends of Raj who killed him as a favor.
The SIT has also requested support from Assam Police and other states where the suspects have traveled before and after the crime.
