Mumbai Police Launch Inquiry into Viral Threat Video
The Mumbai Police have initiated an investigation into a viral video that has raised serious concerns. In this footage, a police driver is seen threatening protesting students, warning them that if they participate in demonstrations again, they could be falsely implicated in drug-related charges. It is reported that the video was recorded by students who were in a police van after being detained on Wednesday. In the clip, the officer can be heard cautioning the students against future protests, stating that he would ruin their lives by framing them in a "false drug case." He ominously adds that they would not be able to secure bail and would end up "rotting in jail." The students seated in the back of the vehicle can be seen laughing at the officer's remarks. The officer further threatens, saying, "If I see you at another protest, I will plant 50 grams of powder (drugs) on you, ensuring your life is destroyed and you won't get bail."
Context of the Protests
Alongside the threats, the officer also made a candid remark, stating, "You are causing us trouble." Hundreds of students have taken to the streets in Mumbai in support of the 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP), which is demanding reforms in education and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan due to repeated paper leaks.
