Mumbai, April 25: Authorities in Mumbai's Samta Nagar have apprehended an individual found with brown heroin near a public restroom in Kandivali East. The estimated street value of the confiscated drugs is around ₹10 lakh.
The suspect, identified as Vicky Vidhakar Padmukh, resides in Kandivali East. He faces charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and is currently in custody.
Police officials reported that the arrest occurred during a routine patrol. Officers observed a man behaving suspiciously near a public toilet in the Lokhandwala Complex area. When he noticed the police, he attempted to escape, prompting a chase. The police successfully caught him, leading to the discovery of the heroin.
The Samta Nagar Police are actively investigating to trace the origin of the drugs and to identify potential buyers, as they suspect a larger drug trafficking network may be at play.
In an unrelated case earlier this month, on April 15, Uran Police confiscated heroin valued at ₹2.52 lakh and arrested three suspects during a raid in Jasai, Uran.
This operation was initiated following reports of drug use among youths behind the Sheetal Parivahan parking area. The arrested individuals were named as Ravindra Kalyan Shetty (27), Ganesh Dattu Bhide (25), and Ganesh Vinay Patil (19).
During the raid, police recovered 85 packets of heroin weighing 6.32 grams from Patil, with a total value of ₹2,52,800 in the international market.
Authorities emphasized that this operation is part of a larger initiative to combat drug trafficking and abuse, responding to community concerns. They also raised alarms about the rising trend of drug use among students, which can lead to severe health problems and contribute to increasing crime rates, presenting significant challenges for law enforcement.
