Mumbai, May 30: A 25-year-old man from Mumbai has been taken into custody for allegedly inflicting serious physical and psychological harm on his wife during a domestic altercation, according to police reports. The accused, who has a prior criminal history, reportedly assaulted his wife at their home and pursued her after she attempted to escape.
Investigators revealed that the suspect, named Arbaaz Syed, became aggressive following a dispute with his spouse. He allegedly confined her within their home, subjected her to physical violence, and threatened her with a sword. Furthermore, he warned her of throwing acid on her face and forced her into a rooster position for nearly four hours.
In fear for her life, the victim managed to escape to her parents' residence. However, her safety was compromised as Arbaaz reportedly tracked her down.
According to police, he caused a scene at her parents' home and, during a confrontation, allegedly attacked her with a knife. Family members quickly notified the authorities, who arrived promptly and arrested the suspect.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Arbaaz had a lengthy criminal record, with 19 cases filed against him across various police stations, involving serious offenses.
Following the victim's complaint, police have initiated legal action under several applicable laws. The accused is expected to be placed in judicial custody as investigations continue.
In an unrelated incident earlier this year, a laborer in Mumbai was reportedly stabbed after confronting his wife and a relative found in a compromising situation at his home. The 38-year-old man returned home unexpectedly and grew suspicious upon noticing the door was locked from the inside and unfamiliar slippers outside. After confronting them, he was allegedly attacked, sustaining injuries to his hand and thigh. An FIR for attempted murder was filed against the two suspects, and the victim was hospitalized for treatment.
