The GRP indicated that the altercation occurred on Thursday morning while the train was en route from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Khopoli.

The victim, identified as Satish Pathak, resides in the Masjid Bunder area of Mumbai. He suffered severe injuries from the stabbing and is currently receiving medical care.

A representative from the GRP stated that the conflict began when Pathak engaged in a disagreement with a group of young men regarding seating in the luggage compartment of the train.
