In a significant setback for the Mumbai Indians, two-time champions of the Women's Premier League (WPL), wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season due to an injury. This announcement was made official on the WPL's website on Tuesday.


The statement also revealed that Vaishnavi Sharma has been signed as Kamalini's replacement. Prior to her injury, Kamalini had participated in five matches during the current WPL season.


Introducing Vaishnavi Sharma

According to the WPL announcement, Vaishnavi Sharma will join the Mumbai Indians for a fee of Rs 30 lakh. The left-arm spinner was part of the Indian squad that achieved a historic victory at the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup in 2025. Additionally, she has played five T20I matches for India, claiming five wickets.


Mumbai Indians' Current Standing in WPL 2026

As the tournament progresses, the Mumbai Indians currently hold the second position after five matches. Under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, the team has secured two wins and faced three losses, accumulating four points with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.151.


The Mumbai Indians are set to compete against the Delhi Capitals in their sixth match on Tuesday, aiming to recover from two consecutive defeats against UP Warriorz.
