Celebrating Jasprit Bumrah's Exceptional Development

Paras Mhambrey, the bowling coach for Mumbai Indians (MI), expressed admiration for Jasprit Bumrah, emphasizing the pacer's outstanding work ethic and significant personal growth over the years. In a pre-match press conference before the IPL 2026 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mhambrey reflected on Bumrah's journey from a young talent to a worldwide cricketing icon.

Praise for Jasprit Bumrah's 'Phenomenal' Growth

"One value that every individual and bowler should pick up from Boom (Bumrah) is clearly his work ethic. The way he goes about it in the nets, tick marking everything that he has worked on and will be using during the game. But, in the last few years with the Indian team...he has grown into a phenomenal bowler and even more so as an individual, which has been amazing," the MI bowling coach said.

Discussing MI's bowling tactics in their initial matches, Mhambrey shared insights on how he strategizes for various scenarios. He stated, "As a bowling group...we always discuss how to get wickets in the middle, execute our plans, maintain the pressure on oppositions and how to exploit individual strengths and weaknesses."

He elaborated on the differences in pitch conditions, noting, "Both surfaces have been different. When we play in Mumbai, we have red soil pitches, which offer bounce due to the grass, allowing for effective square cuts and pull shots. In contrast, black soil pitches in Delhi provide less bounce, requiring us to target different areas."

Mhambrey also discussed the emerging talents in the team, such as Ashwani Kumar and Mohammad Izhar, and the innovative bowling strategies MI develops each season. He remarked, "Firstly, credit should go to the scouts who observe games and identify these young talents. I often reflect on my own early career experiences to better understand how to guide them through pressure and setbacks."

He emphasized the importance of spending time with players to gauge their character and tailor conversations to their needs.

When asked about the roles of both bowling coaches, Mhambrey clarified, "There is no line of difference. Both of us know what our final objective is. It is like having two sides to a coin. We have trust, understanding, and respect amongst ourselves. There is no competition; both of us are working towards the end goal for our team."
