Mumbai Indians' Ambitious Goals for IPL 2026

The Mumbai Indians are gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, with Hardik Pandya at the helm, as they strive to break a five-year trophy drought and solidify their status as the most successful franchise in IPL history. Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh emphasizes that Pandya must take charge to achieve this goal.

Harbhajan's Advice for Pandya

During a discussion on JioHotstar, Harbhajan Singh encouraged Hardik Pandya to showcase his full potential. He stated, "Hardik needs to bring his A game to the table. If he performs at his best, both as a batsman and a bowler, it will significantly impact the team's performance."

Singh highlighted Pandya's impressive bowling during the T20 World Cup, suggesting that he needs to replicate that form in the IPL. He believes that when a captain leads effectively, it inspires the entire team. "If Hardik and his team believe from the outset that they are not just participating but are determined to win the trophy for the sixth time, it can lead to rapid changes for MI," he added.

Insights on MI's Lineup

Hardik Pandya took over as captain of the Mumbai Indians in 2023, succeeding Rohit Sharma ahead of the IPL 2024 season. The team struggled, finishing last in the points table in 2024 and fourth in the previous season. Pandya previously led the Gujarat Titans to their first IPL title in 2022.

Harbhajan also shared his thoughts on the team's playing XI, suggesting that the South African duo of Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock are unlikely to start together. He remarked, "The MI management will probably choose only one of them to play alongside Rohit Sharma, who will be the primary opener. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma are expected to follow at three and four, making it improbable for both Quinton and Ryan to be in the lineup simultaneously."
