Introduction of Contract System

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made history by becoming the first state cricket association in India to implement a contract system for its domestic players, as reported on Thursday.

Criteria for Contracts

Eligible players will receive contracts based on their performance, fitness levels, and the benchmarks set by the selection committee. Players will be categorized into three distinct grades, although it remains unclear whether these contracts will apply to both male and female cricketers.

Contract Grades and Compensation

- **Grade A**: INR 12 lakh to 20 lakh annually

- **Grade B**: INR 8 lakh to 12 lakh annually

- **Grade C**: INR 8 lakh annually

In addition to these contracts, players will also receive match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based incentives in accordance with the state board's policies.

Objectives of the New System

"This system aims to support players nearing higher honors, providing them with stability and motivation to consistently excel at the domestic level," stated the MCA in a release.

A New Era for Mumbai Cricket

"This initiative signifies a new era for Mumbai cricket," expressed MCA president Ajinkya Naik. "We take pride in being the first association to adopt a player contract system, which is a forward-thinking move that will enhance security, structure, and growth opportunities for our players. It embodies our vision to fortify the foundation of Mumbai cricket and empower the upcoming generation of cricketers."
