Mumbai Court Grants Bail to NEET Exam Fraud Suspects Amid Ongoing Investigations
Bail Granted in NEET Exam Manipulation Case
A Mumbai court has granted bail to two individuals arrested on charges of attempting to manipulate scores in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The court ruled that it would not be appropriate to deny bail while the arrest of other accused individuals remains pending.
Sandeep Shah and Salim Patel were taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 10 for allegedly deceiving NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates) candidates and their families.
According to the agency, the suspects claimed they could alter exam scores and were charging ₹90 lakh per candidate for their services. Special CBI Judge V.P. Desai noted in his order on June 21 that the CBI had requested that bail be denied due to the outstanding arrests of three other suspects. Details of this order were made available on Monday.
The court observed that, according to the investigating officer, one accused, Rajiv Sinha, may have fled the country, while two others are untraceable in Bihar.
The court stated that the investigating officer still lacks concrete information on when the remaining accused will be apprehended. It emphasized that the absence of arrests for other suspects cannot serve as a valid reason to deny bail.
