Multiple Road Accidents in Jammu and Kashmir Leave Security Personnel and Pilgrims Injured

Accidents in Shopian and Anantnag Districts

Srinagar: On Tuesday, eleven members of the security forces sustained injuries in two distinct road incidents occurring in the Shopian and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir, according to officials.

The incidents involved a CRPF and police personnel vehicle that skidded off the main road in Wachi, Shopian, late Monday night. Seven CRPF members, including an Inspector, were injured, along with a local police officer.

In a separate incident, three personnel from the ITBP were hurt when a civilian pick-up truck collided with their temporary bunker in Pahalgam, Anantnag, after the driver lost control. The driver also suffered injuries.

Officials confirmed that foul play has been ruled out in both accidents.

Earlier on the same day, a bus carrying 39 Amarnath Yatris met with an accident in the Hariganiwan area of Ganderbal, skidding off the road and plunging into a gorge.

The bus driver lost control while transporting the Yatris back from the pilgrimage.

All injured individuals were promptly taken to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences located in Soura, Srinagar.

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, along with Health Minister Sakina Itoo, visited the hospital to check on the injured and ensure they received adequate medical care.

Doctors reported that while two of the injured had head injuries, none were in critical condition.

Minister Sakina Itoo expressed her concern on social media, stating, "I am deeply troubled by the unfortunate accident involving Amarnath Yatra pilgrims. Following Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's instructions, I visited SKIMS to oversee the treatment of the injured and ensure they receive the best possible care. Wishing everyone a swift recovery. The Health Department is fully committed to supporting the affected pilgrims and their families."
