Multiple Earthquakes Hit China, Tibet, and Nepal

New Delhi, July 31: A series of earthquakes impacted regions in China, Tibet, and Nepal early Friday, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The most powerful quake registered a magnitude of 4.5 in China.
According to a post on X, the NCS detailed, “EQ of M: 4.5, On: 31/07/2026 01:44:06 IST, Lat: 35.259 N, Long: 99.716 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: China.”
Prior to this, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake was recorded in Tibet. The NCS noted, “EQ of M: 4.2, On: 31/07/2026 00:50:07 IST, Lat: 29.068 N, Long: 86.402 E, Depth: 90 Km, Location: Tibet.” The agency also encouraged users to “Download the BhooKamp App for more information.”
Further seismic activity was noted with a magnitude 3.4 earthquake occurring in Nepal. An update on X stated, “EQ of M: 3.4, On: 31/07/2026 01:18:42 IST, Lat: 27.102 N, Long: 87.514 E, Depth: 15 Km, Location: Nepal.”
Earlier, on Thursday night, the NCS had detected another quake in Tibet measuring 4.3 in magnitude. The report indicated, “EQ of M: 4.3, On: 30/07/2026 23:25:39 IST, Lat: 30.379 N, Long: 85.789 E, Depth: 130 Km, Location: Tibet.”
These four earthquakes occurred between 11:25 p.m. IST on Thursday and 1:44 a.m. IST on Friday, affecting various areas of the Himalayan region and western China. The depths of these quakes varied from 10 to 130 kilometers, showcasing different seismic characteristics.
Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage resulting from these earthquakes. Additionally, no tsunami warnings or emergency advisories have been issued in relation to the tremors.
As of Friday morning, authorities in China, Tibet, and Nepal had not released any emergency updates.
The Himalayan region, which encompasses Nepal, Tibet, and adjacent areas of China, is recognized as one of the most seismically active zones globally, primarily due to the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates, leading to frequent earthquakes of varying magnitudes.
