Multinational Air Exercise 'Tarang Shakti-2026' Kicks Off in Jodhpur with F-35 Participation

Launch of 'Tarang Shakti-2026' at Jodhpur Airbase

The Indian Air Force has commenced its multinational air exercise, 'Tarang Shakti-2026', at the Jodhpur Airbase. A notable highlight of this year's exercise is the participation of the United States' fifth-generation F-35A stealth fighter jet, marking its debut in a military drill on Indian soil. Six F-35 aircraft have arrived in Jodhpur, accompanied by over 200 American airmen.

F-35's Historic Participation in Indian Military Exercises

While the F-35 has previously been showcased at events like Aero India, this marks its first involvement in a military exercise in India. The Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, confirmed that the IAF will conduct exercises with the F-35 on Indian territory for the first time.

Arrival of American F-35s and Personnel

The United States has dispatched six F-35A jets for this exercise, along with more than 200 airmen and technical staff. U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gore shared details about the arrival of the F-35s and American personnel in India.

Diverse Aircraft and Support Platforms Involved

The exercise will not only feature fighter jets but also various support and technical platforms, providing an opportunity for personnel from both nations to understand joint operations and technical procedures.

Participation from Eight Nations

This edition of 'Tarang Shakti' sees participation from eight countries, including the USA, France, Germany, Australia, the UAE, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, among others. Additionally, several nations are participating as observers.

Exercise Duration and Objectives

The 'Tarang Shakti-2026' exercise is scheduled to take place from September 26 to October 12, 2026. The primary aim is to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational procedures among the air forces of different countries.

Inclusion of Indian Aircraft

The Indian Air Force will also showcase several of its key aircraft, including Tejas, Sukhoi-30MKI, and Rafale, alongside foreign jets like the American F-35, French Rafale, and UAE's F-16.

Goals of 'Tarang Shakti'

According to the Indian Air Force, a key objective of multinational exercises is to improve interoperability among the air forces of participating nations. The Vice Chief noted that while previous exercises were primarily bilateral, 'Tarang Shakti' emphasizes multinational operations.

Significance of F-35's Participation

The F-35, a fifth-generation stealth fighter, is seen as a significant development in defense collaboration, with its first participation in an Indian military exercise. However, the exercise aims to foster joint training and operational processes rather than merely showcasing a single aircraft's capabilities.
