MS Dhoni's Injury Update: CSK Coach Provides Insights on Recovery
MS Dhoni's Injury Status
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has disclosed that MS Dhoni is currently managing a persistent calf injury. He emphasized the fragility of the injury, noting that any further strain could potentially sideline Dhoni for the entire season. Despite being with the team since March and participating in practice matches and net sessions, which have been widely shared on social media, Dhoni has not yet played in any of the eight matches this season.
Fleming's Comments on Dhoni's Condition
"The calf injury is quite serious. If he (MS Dhoni) aggravates it, he could be out for the whole season. We took precautions early on. During a warm-up match, he tweaked it again, and since then, he has been focused on rehabilitation and regaining mobility. However, there has been a setback," Fleming stated following CSK's eight-wicket loss to the Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
Progress in Dhoni's Recovery
Fleming mentioned that Dhoni is making steady progress in his recovery, working closely with the physiotherapist, although the team is still awaiting full clearance for his return. He also noted that Dhoni has been observing younger players during practice and match simulations, evaluating their readiness for the IPL while continuing his rehabilitation.
Future Prospects for Dhoni
While there is no specific timeline for his return, Fleming expressed optimism about Dhoni's improvement. "He's the one guiding this process. He is diligently working with the physio and undergoing all necessary rehabilitation. We are just waiting for the go-ahead. It's important to note that he is making progress and doing everything possible to return," Fleming added.
"After observing some young talents in practice games and simulations, he feels confident in their abilities to compete in the IPL. The focus now is on his recovery, and while we can't predict exactly when he will return, it could be soon," he concluded.
CSK's Current Standing in IPL 2026
As of now, CSK is positioned sixth on the points table, having secured three wins and suffered five losses in their eight matches. They have six games remaining in IPL 2026, with their next match scheduled at home against the Mumbai Indians on May 2.
