MS Dhoni Poised for IPL Comeback After Injury Setback
Dhoni's Anticipated Return to Action
Chennai Super Kings' seasoned player MS Dhoni is reportedly close to making his return after missing the initial matches of IPL 2026 due to a calf injury. The former captain has yet to participate in any of CSK's first five games but is expected to be back in action soon.
As per reports from RevSportz, Dhoni is set to make a decision on Thursday, April 16, about his participation in the upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The report indicated, "MS Dhoni will decide tomorrow morning whether he will travel to Hyderabad for CSK's match against SRH on Saturday. The former captain, sidelined due to a calf strain, is nearing full fitness, and a final decision will be made tomorrow morning."
Current Team Dynamics Without Dhoni
In Dhoni's absence, wicket-keeping responsibilities have been managed by Sanju Samson, while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has been providing updates on Dhoni's recovery, confirming that his rehabilitation is progressing well within the two-week timeframe initially set.
Dhoni's Impact on Noor Ahmad's Performance
CSK's spin bowling coach, Sridharan Sriram, highlighted Dhoni's significant influence in helping Noor Ahmad regain his form. Sriram stated, "MS had a lengthy discussion with him during one of the practice sessions, particularly focusing on improving his leg-break. It proved beneficial, and the results were evident today," following CSK's 32-run victory over KKR.
Noor Ahmad had a challenging start to the season, going wicket-less in his first three games, but he turned his performance around against Kolkata, achieving figures of 3-21 in a crucial spell.
CSK's Recent Performance and Team Adjustments
The five-time IPL champions faced a rocky start to the season, suffering three consecutive losses that placed them at the bottom of the standings. However, the team has rebounded with consecutive victories, bolstered by the return of Dewald Brevis and the addition of Akeal Hosein. Dhoni's potential return could prompt a reassessment of the team's lineup, as the franchise weighs the benefits of experience against the established XI that has recently achieved success.
