MS Dhoni's Induction into the ICC Hall of Fame
Indian cricket legend MS Dhoni has officially been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Following this remarkable achievement, the former captain and celebrated player shared his thoughts. Dhoni was one of seven distinguished cricketers honored during a grand ceremony held at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Alongside Mahendra Singh Dhoni, several other male cricketers received this prestigious recognition. The list includes South Africa's Hashim Amla, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden, former South African captain Graeme Smith, and New Zealand's great Daniel Vettori. Additionally, Pakistan's Sana Mir and England's former wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor were the two female inductees, bringing the total number of Hall of Famers to 122.
The selection of these seven esteemed cricketers was made through votes from ICC Hall of Famers, senior officials, and media members. They were all inducted during the 'A Day with the Legends' event. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has amassed over 17,000 international runs, is the only captain to have won all three ICC white-ball tournaments. He expressed pride in this honor, recognizing the ICC's initiative to acknowledge the contributions of cricketers since the Hall of Fame program began in 2009.
Dhoni's Reaction to His Induction
After achieving this milestone, Mahendra Singh Dhoni remarked, "Being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame is a great honor that acknowledges the contributions of cricketers from various generations worldwide." He added, "To have your name remembered alongside such great players is an incredible feeling. This is something I will always cherish." Dhoni has played against all five male Hall of Famers and even shared a dressing room with Hayden during his time with the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
With this induction, Dhoni becomes the 11th Indian cricketer to receive this honor. Previous inductees include Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Vinoo Mankad, Dianne Edulji, Virender Sehwag, and Neetu David.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah stated, "Through the ICC Hall of Fame, we honor the best players in the sport whose remarkable careers have shaped the legacy of cricket and inspired generations."
