Motherson Partners with Dighi Port to Enhance Auto Export Logistics
Motherson's Strategic Move in Automotive Logistics
Ahmedabad, Dec 5: In a pivotal advancement for automotive logistics in India, Motherson, through its joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), has entered into a partnership with Dighi Port Limited (DPL), a subsidiary of Adani Ports, to create a specialized facility for auto exports at Dighi Port in Maharashtra.
Dighi Port, recognized as one of APSEZ’s 15 strategic ports, is poised to enhance its capabilities to bolster India’s automotive sector under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, facilitating efficient vehicle exports and imports for international markets.
“By merging APSEZ’s comprehensive infrastructure with Motherson’s logistics expertise, we are establishing a robust network for vehicle transportation throughout the nation. This RoRo (Roll on and Roll off) terminal will expedite trade, improve supply chain efficiency, and provide long-term benefits to our clients and the communities we support,” stated Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole-time Director of Adani Ports.
This collaboration will transform Dighi Port into a primary terminal for automobile exports, particularly benefiting exporters from Mumbai to the Pune automotive hub, as per the company’s announcement.
According to Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of Motherson Group, this alliance with APSEZ marks a significant leap in our goal to deliver integrated, top-tier logistics solutions to the automotive sector.
“The establishment of this RoRo terminal at Dighi Port will not only enhance our service offerings but also create a strategic asset that will improve efficiency and lower logistics costs for our OEM partners,” Sehgal remarked, emphasizing that this partnership will fortify India’s automotive supply chain and provide substantial value to our clients.
The upcoming RoRo terminal will boast cutting-edge infrastructure designed for comprehensive Finished Vehicle (FV) logistics, optimizing operations for leading automotive OEMs.
SAMRX plans to invest in the terminal to integrate its services vertically, providing a holistic logistics solution with complete cargo visibility.
Dighi Port acts as a crucial access point for Maharashtra’s industrial corridors, featuring closed warehouses, tank farms, and open stockyards for commodity storage.
Currently, APSEZ has a cargo handling capacity of 633 million tonnes per year, accounting for about 28 percent of India’s total port volumes, with a goal of reaching one billion tonnes throughput by 2030.
