Mossad Operative Killed During Mission Abroad: Details Emerge
Mossad Agent's Death in Italy
Tel Aviv: A high-ranking member of Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad, has reportedly lost his life during an overseas operation. The operative, referred to by the initial Hebrew letter 'Mem' by Mossad's director David Barnea, played a crucial role in laying the foundation for Operation Roaring Lion aimed at Iran.
During a memorial event for fallen intelligence personnel, Barnea honored 'Mem' for his significant contributions to intricate missions. He expressed, "I reflect on the fallen Mossad agents and their commitment to Israel's security over the years," as reported by a local media outlet. It is noteworthy that Mossad seldom discloses information regarding the deaths of its operatives.
Barnea shared, "Throughout Operation Roaring Lion, I felt immense pride for 'Mem,' who lost his life outside Israel while executing his responsibilities," referring to the ongoing conflict with Iran. He emphasized that the operation, led by 'Mem,' utilized creativity, intelligence, and cutting-edge technology, which greatly impacted the operation's success against Iran.
Reports indicate that the Mossad agent tragically died in a boat accident in Italy in May 2023. Following his death, Italian media identified him as 50-year-old Erez Shimoni, although his true identity remains undisclosed. According to reports, the event where 'Mem' perished was a working meeting involving intelligence personnel, with 19 out of 23 attendees being current or former agents from Israel and Italy.
Israel initiated "Operation Roaring Lion" on February 28 this year in collaboration with the United States. Notably, the US is also conducting a military operation against Iran, codenamed "Operation Epic Fury." On the inaugural day of the joint military efforts, several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were reportedly killed.
