Moscow Responds to Drone Threats

Moscow: In the early hours of Monday, Moscow successfully intercepted a significant number of drones, just days following a Ukrainian assault on the city’s oil refinery. Reports indicate that Russian attacks in Ukraine resulted in the deaths of at least six individuals, including a father and his young son.

According to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, a total of 84 drones targeting Moscow were shot down within the last 24 hours, as he shared on Telegram. Emergency services were dispatched to the locations where the drones were neutralized, although no additional details were provided. The aviation authority announced that flights at Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovskiy airports were temporarily halted.

Ukraine's military claimed responsibility for a strike on the Dubna satellite communications center located in the vicinity.

Local news outlets reported that Russian defense systems managed to down 301 drones overnight, a figure that includes incidents in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine. These recent drone strikes follow a significant attack on Moscow’s only oil refinery last week, marking one of the most extensive aerial assaults on the city since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

In a separate incident, a drone attack in Ukraine’s Sumy region resulted in the tragic deaths of a 13-year-old boy, his 36-year-old father, and a 73-year-old grandmother, as confirmed by regional prosecutors. Regional governor Oleh Hryhorov noted that the elderly woman was the mother of the man’s roommate. Additionally, Russian drone strikes in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia overnight led to two fatalities and seven injuries, as reported by Ukraine’s emergency services. They shared footage of firefighters battling flames engulfing a building and a blurred image of firefighters recovering a body in a black bag.
