Discovery of Mortar Shell in Bareilly

In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a mortar shell was found buried in a mound of soil close to railway tracks. This information was confirmed by a police official on Wednesday.


The officer explained that the shell was uncovered during excavation work by a JCB machine in the Subhash Nagar police jurisdiction, which was being conducted for the construction of a new embankment.


Members of the local police and the Army's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit quickly arrived at the scene to neutralize the old, unexploded bomb. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya stated, 'This incident came to light around 1 AM on Tuesday. We received reports of a suspicious object resembling a mortar shell found in the soil during the excavation near the railway tracks in Subhash Nagar.'


Arya further mentioned that the local police and bomb disposal squad were dispatched to the location, accompanied by the Army's EOD team, which confirmed the presence of the old mortar shell. The officer added, 'Subsequently, the Army unit safely deactivated the shell.'
