Morkel Discusses Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Development

Morne Morkel, the bowling coach for India, emphasized the significance of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's ongoing involvement with the Indian team, regardless of whether he plays in the first T20I against the West Indies on Tuesday. He noted that the final decision on the playing XI will be made by the selectors, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the captain, who will determine the best lineup for India's World Cup aspirations.

Morkel remarked that training alongside seasoned international players and observing their preparation will be beneficial for Sooryavanshi's growth and adaptation to elite cricket.

In a pre-match press conference, Morkel stated, "I am confident that Gautam will consider rotation. Ultimately, it is up to the selectors, coach, and captain to decide which XI will best secure a victory for India in the upcoming World Cup. This has always been our primary focus."

He acknowledged Sooryavanshi's talent, asserting that spending time in a high-quality environment will enhance his skills. Even if he doesn't play, being around experienced players in various settings will be invaluable. Morkel explained, "Sharing the dressing room and engaging with experienced teammates will be crucial for his development, as he learns by observing their processes and how they approach innings."

Creating a Learning Environment for Young Players

Morkel highlighted the necessity of fostering a conducive environment for young players, even when their opportunities to play are limited. He encouraged them to learn from their more experienced teammates during training, grasp their strategies, and ask questions. He believes that such exposure is vital for young cricketers to develop their skills and mental resilience.

He stated, "I firmly believe that placing players in the right environment allows them to ask pertinent questions and observe effectively. I challenge them to watch how seasoned players handle their first 15 balls in training and what game plans they devise. Regardless of their playing time, it is our responsibility to ensure they learn, grow, and inquire. This approach creates a fantastic framework for their development."
