Morigaon Police Capture Three Cybercriminals in Night Operation

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, Morigaon police arrested three suspects involved in defrauding companies of around Rs 15 lakh. The operation, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Samiran Baishya, followed extensive intelligence gathering. The arrested individuals had been evading capture for a long time. This incident is part of a broader effort to combat cyber fraud in the region, which has seen other high-profile arrests, including a case involving a Rs 27-crore embezzlement scheme. The police continue to investigate and recover assets linked to these crimes.

Arrests Made in Cybercrime Investigation


Morigaon, Jan 4: In a late-night operation on Saturday, law enforcement in Morigaon apprehended three individuals involved in cybercrime at Moirabari village.


The suspects have been named as Muktar Hussain (33), Mostak Ahmed (32), and Baharul Islam (49).


According to police reports, these individuals had been on the run for an extended period, frequently relocating to avoid capture.


Their arrests are linked to Case No. 178/24 filed at the Moirabari Police Station, which cites multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, alongside Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.


The operation was led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Samiran Baishya.


A police spokesperson stated, “This arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime. Based on intelligence and thorough investigation, we have detained three fraudsters who are suspected of defrauding various companies of approximately Rs 15 lakh.”


Previously, on October 17, another cybercriminal named Chirajul Islam was arrested by Kerala Police, with support from Lahorighat police in Morigaon, for allegedly orchestrating a Rs 27-crore fraud involving the Federal Bank of Kerala.


This operation was conducted under the guidance of Lahorighat Police Superintendent Diganta Baruah, following reliable intelligence.


A team from Kerala Police collaborated with local officials to locate and arrest the suspect at his home in Lahorighat.


During the raid, authorities confiscated several luxury vehicles and digital evidence, including electronic devices that are believed to hold vital information related to the financial crime.


Additionally, numerous high-value properties thought to have been acquired through illicit means were identified.
