Morigaon Civil Hospital Faces Criticism Over Lack of Basic Medical Equipment
Emergency Care in Crisis
The family members of a patient named Dipu Deka from brought him to the Morigaon Civil Hospital in a critical health condition.
Morigaon, May 11: A distressing event unfolded at Morigaon Civil Hospital, the primary facility for advanced medical care in the district, when a critically ill patient was transported to the emergency ward on a garbage cart due to the absence of a stretcher or wheelchair.
On Sunday afternoon, Dipu Deka's family, hailing from Monahar in Morigaon district, rushed him to the hospital in a dire state. Upon arrival, they sought a stretcher or wheelchair to move him to the outpatient department and subsequently to the emergency area where doctors were available. Unfortunately, after nearly two hours of searching, they found no available stretchers.
In a desperate attempt to get help, the patient's father resorted to using a cart typically used for garbage, which he retrieved from the post-mortem area. With the aid of a broken trolley, they managed to place the patient on the cart and transport him to the medical staff.
This tragic incident has sparked significant public outcry. It is important to note that Morigaon Civil Hospital, which honors the three martyrs from the district—Tilak Deka, Hemram Pator, and Gunabhiram Bordoloi—has been in a state of neglect for a considerable time, severely affecting patients from various regions of the district.
Reports indicate that despite the presence of a robust Health Department in Assam and the Central Government's ambitious National Health Mission (NHM) initiative, Morigaon Civil Hospital has been operating without sufficient stretchers and wheelchairs for patient assistance for an extended period.
