Mona Singh's Journey Through Two Decades

Mumbai, Dec 29: Actor Mona Singh, who has successfully navigated the realms of television, film, and digital media, reflects on the first quarter of the 21st century as a time of both personal and industry-wide transformation.

In a conversation about her career, Mona expressed that her path has been marked by continuous learning and appreciation.

“On a personal level, it’s been a journey filled with learning and gratitude. I’ve evolved alongside the industry, both as an actress and an individual. I feel lucky to have portrayed roles that challenged me and kept me relevant across various platforms. I remain thankful to be active, excited, and curious,” she shared.

From gaining fame through her role in the 2003 series Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin to making a significant impact in films like 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., and Laal Singh Chaddha, Mona has adeptly adjusted to the evolving formats and narratives.

Her recent performance in the series “The Ba****ds of Bollywood” showcased her talent for portraying intricate, modern characters.

When asked about the most surprising change in the industry, Mona remarked, “The speed at which the industry adapted to change was astonishing. The rise of OTT platforms has opened new avenues for actors and storytellers, making age, genre, and format less significant.”

“Moreover, the direct connection between audiences and artists through social media is something I never envisioned back in the late 90s,” she added.

Mona believes that the most notable evolution in Bollywood over the past 25 years has been in storytelling.

“Reflecting on the last 25 years, the most significant transformation I observe is in the narratives. Stories have become more authentic, nuanced, and bold. We are now willing to delve into uncomfortable emotions and complex characters,” she stated.

She noted that advancements in technology have revolutionized the filmmaking process.

“What excites me the most is the evolution of the audience. Today's viewers are inquisitive, discerning, and receptive to a wide range of stories, whether they are grand, intimate, commercial, or niche. Witnessing this shift has been a beautiful experience,” she expressed.

As 2025 approaches, the actress reflected on the past quarter-century, emphasizing the theme of courage.

“I will remember these 25 years for the courage to tell new stories, challenge stereotypes, and reinvent ourselves. I cherish the love from the audience, the friendships formed on set, and the joy of engaging in meaningful work,” she concluded.

“Above all, I will remember how cinema has evolved and how I have grown with it.”
