Mohammed Siraj, a fast bowler for India and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana, recently visited the office of the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP), CV Anand, as part of an official protocol.
DGP Reflects on Siraj's Cricketing Journey
During the meeting, DGP CV Anand shared insights on Siraj's cricketing journey, recalling how he witnessed Siraj's development from his early days in Hyderabad cricket to becoming a top fast bowler for India. Anand mentioned, "I have followed Siraj's career since he played tennis ball cricket. In 2013-14, former cricketer Abdul Azeem encouraged me to observe his talent."
Anand highlighted Siraj's swift ascent through domestic cricket, noting, "He quickly progressed to two-day leagues and made his Ranji Trophy debut in 2015. His impressive performance in the 2016-17 season, where he took 41 wickets, marked the beginning of his successful career. His journey to representing India in all formats showcases how dedication and hard work can help overcome challenges. He is a valuable asset to India's pace attack and a shining star from Hyderabad."
He concluded by wishing Siraj continued success in his international career, stating, "I hope he achieves many more memorable performances in India's colors."
Siraj's Role as DSP and Workload Management
Siraj officially took on the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Telangana on October 11, 2024, following India's victory at the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. However, he was not part of the current tour to England and Ireland due to recommendations from the BCCI Medical Team for a rest period as part of his workload management.
Career Achievements in Numbers
Since his international debut in a T20I against New Zealand on November 4, 2017, Siraj has become one of India's premier fast bowlers. He has amassed a total of 233 international wickets, comprising 140 in Tests, 76 in ODIs, and 17 in T20Is. Notable highlights of his career include a remarkable 6/21 performance in the 2023 Asia Cup final, where he became the first Indian to take four wickets in a single over in international cricket, and his crucial contributions during India's 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory in Australia.
Currently, Siraj plays for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, having previously represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has taken 128 wickets in 125 IPL matches and achieved the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI bowling rankings in January 2023.
