Mohammed Shami and His Brother Face Election Commission Hearing

The Indian cricket team's fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, along with his brother Mohammed Kaif, has received a notice from the Election Commission for a special intensive review (SIR) hearing. This notice was officially issued from the Kartju Nagar School located in the Jadavpur area of South Kolkata. According to media reports, Shami is registered as a voter in Ward No. 93 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), which falls under the Rashbehari assembly constituency. The hearing for Shami is scheduled to take place between January 9 and 11. He was unable to attend the hearing set for Monday as he is representing Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot. Reports indicate that he has informed the Election Commission that he will be present for the hearing at a later date.

Hearing Process and Involvement of Other Figures

The SIR hearing process commenced on December 27, calling upon Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, along with TMC MP and actor Dev, and their family members. As per reports, an observer from the Election Commission stated that Shami's hearing was initially scheduled for January 5, but he was playing in Rajkot at that time. Some data was missing in the mapping section, necessitating the rescheduling of his hearing. Meanwhile, Dev and his family members have also been summoned for the hearing. The Chief Minister of West Bengal wrote to CBC Gyanesh Kumar on Sunday, requesting a halt to the SIR process in Bengal.

Voter List Revision in West Bengal

In the SIR directives issued by the Election Commission on October 27, voters were instructed to fill out forms and verify their names or those of their family members in the voter list, which underwent a comprehensive revision in West Bengal in 2002. To remain eligible to vote in the future, it is essential for voters to have their names registered in the 2002 voter list, either their own or that of a relative.
