Rizwan's Request to the NCCIA
Mohammad Rizwan has reached out to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to ensure adherence to a recent ruling from the Lahore High Court. As reported by Cricinfo, Rizwan expressed his lack of knowledge regarding the investigation's specifics and requested the return of his mobile phone, which remains in the NCCIA's possession. The device was confiscated on August 31 in England, following Pakistan's loss to Australia at Lord's, with assurances that it would be returned within three hours.
Court's Directive
Rizwan's communication with the NCCIA comes shortly after the Lahore High Court rejected his petition questioning the agency's authority in this case. The court instructed Rizwan to assist with the NCCIA's inquiries while ensuring that he is not subjected to any form of harassment or undue inconvenience. Furthermore, it permitted Rizwan to seek the appropriate channels for the recovery of his belongings, including the mobile phone that has yet to be returned.
Clarification and Return of Property Requested
In his letter to the NCCIA, Rizwan noted that the agency had not reached out to confirm compliance with the court's orders. He specifically asked for written clarification regarding the investigation and the date he would need to appear before the NCCIA. Despite having no legal obligation, Rizwan had granted access to his phone in the UK, based on the promise of a swift return. However, four weeks later, the phone is still with the NCCIA, despite him having shared the password. Rizwan emphasized that his voluntary cooperation should be reciprocated with the return of his device and clarity on the investigation's nature.
Ongoing Investigation Involving Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq
This letter represents the latest update in the NCCIA's investigation concerning Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, which arose following Pakistan's defeat in the second Test during their England tour. Both players were promptly recalled to Pakistan after the match. While Imam responded to the agency's inquiries, Rizwan chose to seek legal counsel and contest the NCCIA's jurisdiction. Although his efforts to dismiss the case were unsuccessful, he continues to engage with legal representation and has requested that the agency communicate with him in writing regarding any investigation-related matters.
