Mohammad Nawaz Faces Investigation Over Positive Drug Test During T20 World Cup
Mohammad Nawaz Under Investigation
Pakistan's all-rounder, Mohammad Nawaz, is currently facing scrutiny after testing positive for recreational drugs during the T20 World Cup held earlier this year. Nawaz was part of the Pakistan team that was eliminated in the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
Presently, he is playing for the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he has taken 6 wickets and scored 36 runs across eight matches. Additionally, he recently secured a contract with Surrey for the upcoming T20 Blast scheduled to start on May 22.
However, his involvement in the T20 Blast is now uncertain due to the reported positive drug test, which has led to the collapse of his deal with Surrey amid an ongoing investigation by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following an alert from the ICC.
PCB Launches Investigation into Drug Use
As reported by a sports news outlet, Nawaz allegedly used recreational drugs during the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The Pakistan team, led by Salman Ali Agha, played all their matches in Sri Lanka as per an agreement between the BCCI and PCB.
Nawaz participated in all seven matches for Pakistan, taking seven wickets but scoring only 15 runs, leading to the team's exit from the tournament. The PCB has confirmed that it is following due process after receiving information from the ICC, and the situation will be assessed before any decisions are made.
"The ICC has notified the PCB regarding this issue, and the PCB has initiated the necessary procedures. The findings will be communicated to the ICC today," stated a PCB spokesperson.
Future of Nawaz in Doubt Amid Controversy
With the PCB investigating Mohammad Nawaz for his positive drug test during the T20 World Cup, his future in both international cricket and franchise leagues is now in jeopardy. His participation in the upcoming T20 Blast is highly questionable, as reports indicate that the Surrey deal has fallen through while authorities await the results of the PCB's investigation and further details from the ICC.
The news of Nawaz's drug test has ignited a wave of reactions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where fans and cricket followers have criticized him for the allegations. One user remarked, "Totally failed to perform even after taking drugs," while others expressed their disbelief and called for strict penalties if the allegations are substantiated.
Social Media Reactions to the Controversy
The controversy surrounding Mohammad Nawaz has led to a flurry of comments on social media, with many users expressing their disappointment and anger. Some fans questioned the PCB's timing regarding the No Objection Certificate (NOC) approval, while others mocked his performance and demanded a ban if the allegations are confirmed.
As the investigation continues, Nawaz's participation in the PSL match against the Hyderabad Kingsmen at the National Stadium in Karachi on April 22 is also uncertain, with team management awaiting further guidance from the PCB.
