Moeen Ali Chooses PSL Over IPL: Insights Behind His Decision
Moeen Ali's Decision Explained
Moeen Ali: The scheduling of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) coincides due to Pakistan's insistence, resulting in Indian players not participating in the PSL and vice versa. Consequently, foreign players are left with the option to choose only one tournament.
Players who do not secure contracts for the IPL often turn to the PSL. Many players, despite having PSL contracts, opt to play in the IPL when called upon, while some prioritize the PSL.
Moeen Ali Opts for PSL
Renowned England cricketer Moeen Ali has decided to play in the PSL instead of the IPL. Although he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the IPL, he chose to participate in the PSL this year. Initially, this decision seemed puzzling, but Moeen has now clarified his reasoning.
Of Pakistani descent, Moeen Ali explained why he preferred the PSL over the IPL, dispelling various speculations surrounding his choice. He has now openly shared the reasons that made the PSL more significant for him than the IPL.
Moeen Ali Reveals His Reasons
During an ARY podcast, Moeen Ali addressed this topic, stating:
“There are several reasons behind this. Now that I am 38, I still want to play, perform well, and extend my career as much as possible. My decision to come here was greatly influenced by Karachi. It’s a smaller tournament, which is better for me and my family.”
Moeen was acquired by KKR for a base price of 2 crores but had limited playing opportunities. He participated in only 6 matches, scoring just 5 runs and taking 6 wickets while conceding 136 runs. This lack of playtime contributed to his decision to choose the PSL over the IPL.
Moeen Ali Acknowledges Limited Opportunities in IPL
Moeen Ali acknowledged that he received few chances in the IPL, stating:
“Last year in the IPL, I played only half the matches and had very little opportunity to bat, just twice. At this stage of my career, I want to be on the field; I want to bat. I believe I am still playing good cricket, even in the latter part of my career, and I just want to continue.”
He further added:
“There’s no guarantee of a spot anywhere, not even here, but I just want to enjoy my cricket as much as possible. I have always wanted to experience playing in the PSL, but unfortunately, its schedule slightly clashes with the IPL.”
Moeen Ali has been consistently getting opportunities in the PSL, having scored 132 runs at an average of 26.40 in 6 matches for Karachi Kings, with a top score of 48 not out. He has also taken 4 wickets in the same number of matches.
