MK Stalin Urges Release of Funds for Women Artists Scheme in Tamil Nadu
Stalin's Call for Timely Fund Disbursement
Former Chief Minister and DMK leader MK Stalin has urged the newly elected Chief Minister Vijay to release the funds for the Kalaiygnar Magalir Urimai Thittam (Women Artists Rights Scheme) by May 15. In a social media post, Stalin criticized the TVK government for the delay in disbursing the funds for May, questioning the Chief Minister's commitment to the welfare schemes. He stated, "Honorable Chief Minister, the funds for the Women Artists Rights Scheme for May should be deposited by the 15th. Why the delay in continuing the current scheme? What restructuring do you plan? Did you not just say in the Assembly that the welfare schemes of the Dravidian model government will continue?"
Criticism of Election Promises
Stalin also mocked Vijay's promise during the election campaign to provide ₹2,500 to all women heads of households aged 60 and above, questioning the government's failure to even provide ₹1,000. This statement followed a declaration from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's office, which mentioned that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay had ordered the prompt deposit of the May 2026 funds under the Women Artists Rights Fund into beneficiaries' bank accounts.
Government's Assurance on Financial Support
Meanwhile, sources indicate that the Tamil Nadu government, led by Chief Minister Vijay, will continue to provide a monthly assistance of ₹1,000 to women beneficiaries, ensuring that there are no interruptions until the promised increase to ₹2,500 is implemented. Chief Minister Joseph Vijay convened a meeting with the finance secretary and senior officials at the secretariat to ensure the timely release of the ₹1,000 amount that was deposited into women's bank accounts during the previous DMK administration.
