MK Stalin Forms Committee to Assess DMK's Election Performance

In a significant move following the assembly elections, MK Stalin, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK leader, has established a 38-member committee to assess the party's performance. This initiative aims to gather grassroots feedback from party workers across all constituencies. Stalin emphasized the importance of unbiased reporting and confidentiality in the process. The committee is tasked with submitting its findings by June 5, with the goal of implementing necessary reforms by the end of the month. This strategic step comes after the DMK faced challenges in the recent elections, securing only 59 seats amidst a rising opposition.

Formation of a 38-Member Committee

On Saturday, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and DMK leader MK Stalin announced the establishment of a 38-member committee aimed at evaluating the party's performance in the recent assembly elections. In a post on X, Stalin mentioned that committee members would be dispatched to all 234 constituencies as representatives of the party headquarters to gauge the sentiments of grassroots workers and officials. He stated, 'In light of the assembly election results, I have appointed this committee to conduct a thorough ground-level study across all constituencies. During our meeting today, I provided several crucial directives on how this study should be conducted.'

Listening to Party Workers

Stalin instructed the committee members to listen to the party workers without any bias and to report their views accurately, even if the criticism is directed at the party leadership. He emphasized that the report should be submitted by June 5, with corrective measures and changes within the party to be implemented by the end of June. 'Each of you is being sent as a representative of the party headquarters and on my behalf. Your sole duty is to listen to the truths expressed by party members without any personal bias and report them to me as they are,' he stated.

Guidelines for the Committee

Stalin further stressed that during this process, members should neither defend anyone nor seek revenge against any individual. He advised against any attempts to shield someone or harbor thoughts of retaliation. The DMK leader directed that all meetings should be conducted in pairs, allowing party workers to express their grievances openly. 'Even if they criticize me as a leader, that is acceptable. Record it and include it in your report,' he added.

Confidentiality and Election Results

Using an analogy, Stalin remarked that just as one should never lie to a doctor, he too should not be kept in the dark. 'Only when the illness is clearly identified can the right medicine be administered,' he explained. He instructed committee members to keep the information shared by party workers confidential, warning that any disclosure would undermine the purpose of this process. The DMK faced challenges in retaining power in the 2026 elections, securing only 59 seats. Meanwhile, the emerging party Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) capitalized on the anti-incumbency wave and the popularity of Vijay, winning 108 seats and forming a government with support from Congress (five seats), CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML.
