Stalin's Strong Opposition to the Amendment

On Wednesday, MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressed his disapproval of the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which proposes the removal of an elected Chief Minister after 30 days of arrest. He described this move as a violation of the Constitution and its democratic principles.

In a passionate statement shared on social media platform X, Stalin called for a collective response from all democratic entities against what he termed an effort to transform India into a dictatorship. He stated, "A 30-day arrest leading to the removal of an elected CM is a direct order from the BJP, without any trial or conviction."

Stalin further elaborated, warning that such actions are the beginnings of dictatorship: "This is how dictatorships start: by stealing votes, silencing opponents, and suppressing states."

He accused the Union BJP Government of undermining the Constitution and its democratic values, asserting that the legitimacy of the BJP's mandate is now questionable following allegations of vote theft. He claimed that the BJP is attempting to divert public attention from these serious accusations by introducing the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

Stalin articulated his concerns regarding the implications of this Bill, stating that it would enable the BJP to fabricate charges against political adversaries in power across various states, allowing for their removal based solely on a 30-day arrest, without any legal proceedings. He asserted that this unconstitutional amendment would likely be overturned by the courts, as guilt should only be determined after a trial, not merely by the filing of a case.

He characterized this as a malicious strategy to intimidate regional parties within the NDA, suggesting that leaders of these parties face pressure to conform or risk removal from power. Stalin cautioned that this could lead the nation toward a dictatorship.
