A Life Well-Lived


Aizawl, July 23: Famiangi, who is recognized as the oldest woman in Mizoram, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 22 at the remarkable age of 117.


She resided in Pangkhua village, located in the southern Lawngtlai district of Mizoram.


Local community leaders have documented that Famiangi was born in 1908 to parents Huathmung (L) and Suisung (L). She was married to the late Heinawna and was blessed with eight children.


Her family tree is extensive, boasting a total of 195 descendants, which includes 51 grandchildren, 122 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.


Famiangi was celebrated for her vibrant health and spirit, even participating in the 2023 Mizoram State Assembly Elections, where she received a certificate of appreciation from the state election commission.


In the months leading up to her passing, her health began to deteriorate due to age-related issues, with her condition worsening in July.


Despite the devoted care provided by her family, she passed away peacefully at 7:00 AM on Tuesday.
