Mizoram Government and Churches Unite Against Proposed FCRA Amendments

Mizoram's Response to Proposed FCRA Changes

On July 25, the government of Mizoram, along with prominent church organizations in the state, decided to submit a memorandum to the central government. This memorandum will recommend amendments to the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, which they find unacceptable in its current form.

The decision was made during a meeting held at the official residence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma, attended by leaders from the Mizoram Kohhran Hnuaite Committee (MKHC) and the Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM).

Officials reported that during the meeting, participants engaged in an extensive discussion regarding the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA). They unanimously expressed their concerns that the bill, as it stands, is not acceptable. It was agreed that the state government would prepare a memorandum recommending changes to the proposed legislation.
