Strengthening Tourism Cooperation

Assam Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog with Mizoram Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar

Aizawl, July 19: The states of Mizoram and Assam have reached an agreement to enhance collaboration in the tourism sector. This initiative was discussed during a meeting between Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar of Mizoram and his Assam counterpart Ajanta Neog in Guwahati on Saturday, where they explored strategies to promote tourism between their regions.

The discussions were held at the residence of the Assam Tourism Minister, focusing on how both governments can work together to boost tourism initiatives.

According to Lalnghinglova Hmar, there has been a notable increase in tourist arrivals in Mizoram since the state was linked to the railway network in September of the previous year.

“A significant number of visitors to Mizoram come from Assam, highlighting the importance of enhanced cooperation in tourism between our states. I am optimistic about deepening this partnership,” he remarked.

Ajanta Neog expressed Assam's eagerness to strengthen tourism relations with Mizoram, emphasizing that such collaboration would be mutually beneficial.

The ministers concurred that their tourism departments should engage in closer cooperation to establish a structured partnership. They also emphasized the necessity for the entire North East region to collaborate, not just Assam and Mizoram, to position the area as a premier tourism destination in India.

During their meeting, Lalnghinglova Hmar shared details about upcoming tourism events and festivals organized by the Mizoram Government this year and extended an invitation to Neog to visit Mizoram and partake in the celebrations. Neog expressed her willingness to accept the invitation.

The Mizoram minister also participated in Imaginarium 2.0 – North East Events & Entertainment Leaders' Summit, which brings together prominent event management, tourism, and hospitality companies in Guwahati. This two-day summit is taking place at the Mayfair Spring Valley Resort from July 18 to 19.
