Missile Assault on Kyiv: Russia Strikes Ahead of US-Ukraine Talks
Early Morning Attack on Ukraine's Capital
Kyiv: In a significant escalation, Russia launched a missile and drone assault on Ukraine's capital early Saturday, resulting in injuries to at least eight individuals, just one day prior to scheduled discussions between Ukraine and the United States, as reported by local officials.
The city was rocked by explosions for several hours as ballistic missiles and drones targeted various locations. The assault commenced in the early hours and persisted into daylight.
This attack coincides with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's upcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump on Sunday, where they are expected to address critical topics such as security assurances and territorial disputes in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Among the injured was a 16-year-old, as confirmed by Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's City Military Administration, who provided updates via Telegram.
A fire erupted in an 18-story residential building located in the Dnipro district, prompting emergency responders to act swiftly to control the blaze.
Additionally, a 24-story residential structure in the Darnytsia district was struck, leading to further fires in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivsky districts.
The strikes also impacted industrial and residential areas throughout the broader Kyiv region, with emergency services rescuing an individual trapped under the debris of a collapsed house in the Vyshhorod area.
