KANGRA: A distressing event has occurred in Himachal Pradesh, where a young girl was kidnapped at gunpoint near Basantpur in the Jawali sub-division on the evening of August 12, 2025. This incident follows closely after the recent abduction of three students from the renowned Bishop Cotton School in Shimla, who were fortunately rescued within a day.
As per police reports, the girl was riding on a tractor with her brother, heading home to Meerthal, when a black Scorpio SUV with a Jammu and Kashmir registration suddenly cut them off near Basantpur.
Witnesses recounted that three armed individuals exited the SUV, brandishing a firearm, and forcibly took the girl from the tractor in a dramatic fashion. They then shoved her into their vehicle and sped away, leaving her brother and onlookers in disbelief.
Kidnappers Cause Chaos While Fleeing
During their escape, the abductors collided with two other vehicles, causing damage. Eyewitnesses noted that the situation could have escalated further if a motorbike or pedestrian had been nearby. “Their reckless driving resembled a scene from a crime movie,” remarked a local resident.
The girl's family is devastated. Her parents, relatives, and neighbors are in deep sorrow, urgently appealing to authorities for swift action. “We just want our daughter back. Please help us,” pleaded the girl's mother.
This incident has ignited significant anger within the local community, with residents expressing frustration over perceived lapses in law enforcement.
Police Initiate Statewide Search
Jawali DSP Viri Singh confirmed the occurrence of the abduction, stating that a case has been filed and specialized teams are working to locate the kidnappers. Police checkposts in the vicinity have been placed on high alert, and search operations are being intensified throughout Kangra and neighboring districts.
“We are prioritizing this case. All leads are being followed, and the search for the black Scorpio is ongoing,” the DSP stated, urging the public to report any suspicious vehicles or individuals immediately.
