Review Meeting on Urban Development Initiatives

Today, Minister Nitish Mishra convened a review meeting focused on the Urban Development and Housing Department, specifically addressing the allegations and monitoring cell, along with municipal administration tasks. The session involved a thorough evaluation of departmental progress, pending issues, disciplinary actions, and the operational efficiency of urban bodies. During the review, Minister Mishra emphasized the need to identify officials and staff facing serious allegations and ensure prompt action in accordance with regulations. He further stated that transparency and accountability within the administrative framework are of utmost importance, and any irregularities at any level will not be tolerated.


Addressing Pending Issues

The minister drew attention to the backlog of cases, issuing clear directives to avoid unnecessary delays in file processing at any level. He instructed that officials with files pending for extended periods should also be identified and necessary actions taken against them. Mishra mentioned that the State Quality Monitor (SQM) system will independently assess the quality of development schemes and infrastructure projects within municipal areas, ensuring compliance with established standards, transparency, and accountability in construction activities.


Focus on Disaster Management and Urban Preparedness

In the meeting, the minister placed special emphasis on disaster management and urban preparedness. He directed that each municipal corporation be equipped with modern machinery and essential resources to effectively respond to potential disasters and emergencies. Mishra asserted that strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) at the municipal level is crucial. This includes managing waterlogging and floods, regular cleaning of drains, adherence to building regulations, enhancing fire safety measures, developing early warning systems, and conducting awareness and training programs at the ward level.

He concluded that these measures would help mitigate the impact of disasters in urban areas, ensuring the safety of citizens and making cities more secure, capable, and resilient against disasters.
