Mild Earthquake Strikes Nashik, Maharashtra: No Casualties Reported

On August 9, a mild earthquake was felt in various areas of Nashik, Maharashtra, leading to cracks in some buildings. Local officials confirmed that there were no reports of injuries during this incident.

According to the National Center for Seismology, a tremor measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred in Nashik at 10 PM on Saturday. This was followed by another quake of 3.3 magnitude at 5:33 AM on Sunday. The seismic activity was recorded at a depth of five kilometers near the Bhanwad area, close to the Hatgad mountain range along the Maharashtra-Gujarat border.

Residents in several parts of Nashik city, as well as in the tehsils of Surgana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori, and Niphad, experienced the tremors, prompting many to evacuate their homes in panic. Officials reported that some walls in the villages of Bhadar in Surgana and Nanashi in Dindori sustained cracks, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Authorities also inspected local dams and found no damage. District Collector Ayush Prasad reassured the public, stating, 'There is no need for people to panic or believe in rumors. However, everyone should remain vigilant and take necessary safety precautions.' This was not the first seismic activity in the region, as tremors were also recorded between July 25 and 28, as well as on August 6.
