Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has alleviated concerns regarding his potential exit from the club, emphasizing his desire to remain with the reigning Premier League champions. Since taking the helm in 2019, the 44-year-old has guided Arsenal to one FA Cup, two Community Shields, and ended a 22-year wait for a Premier League title last season. His tenure also saw the team reach the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who have won the title consecutively.
In May, Arsenal co-chairman Josh Kroenke highlighted the importance of extending Arteta's contract as he enters the final year of his current deal. However, Arteta reassured fans that there is no cause for alarm as they prepare for their opening match against Coventry FC at home.
'I Want to Be Here'
"The fans don’t need to worry about anything because I want to be here. I am very happy and grateful to work with my team. When the time is right, we will address the contract situation," Arteta stated, as reported by a sports news outlet.
He also mentioned that the transfer market remains a priority, adding, "There’s always something else to focus on, and we’ve been managing it well. Everyone feels assured that the contract duration won’t be a concern."
Alignment with Club Goals
Arteta expressed his alignment with the club's objectives, saying, "My intention is to stay, and I am very content here. The club shares this sentiment, which is why we are progressing in a natural manner."
Community Shield Focus
Arteta's confidence is supported by his impressive record, having won 213 out of 353 competitive matches as manager. During his playing career at Arsenal from 2011 to 2016, he also secured two FA Cups and Community Shields.
The North London club is vying for their 18th Community Shield title, with only Manchester United having more in English football history. They will compete against Manchester City for the Community Shield in Cardiff this Sunday.
The Gunners have a strong track record in their last five Community Shield appearances, boasting a perfect record of three wins when entering as reigning league champions in 1998, 2002, and 2004.
