Incident Involving a Migrant Worker in Karnataka

A migrant worker from Jharkhand was brutally attacked in Karnataka after being falsely accused of being a Bangladeshi citizen. Diljaan Ansari, who has been working seasonally in the state for nearly 15 years, was assaulted by a group of four individuals in Mangaluru. The attackers demanded to see his identification and accused him of being an illegal immigrant. The violence erupted when they questioned Ansari about his nationality and refused to accept his repeated assertions of being an Indian citizen. Subsequently, he was attacked with sharp objects, resulting in severe injuries to his head.

Intervention and Police Response

The assault ceased when a local woman intervened, forcing the attackers to flee the scene. Authorities reported that Ansari, fearing repercussions due to his status as a migrant worker, did not immediately contact the police. He returned home without filing a complaint, and the incident only came to light later when local leaders raised the issue and called for police action. Following an investigation, police verified Ansari's documents, confirming his Indian citizenship. The suspects have been identified as Sagar, Dhanush, Laloo Ratish, and Mohan, who are allegedly linked to a right-wing organization.

Legal Action Against the Suspects

Charges have been filed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including attempted murder and criminal intimidation. Ansari is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be recovering from his injuries. The four suspects remain at large, and police teams have been formed to locate and apprehend them.
