Michael Vaughan Expresses Disappointment Over Virat Kohli's Test Retirement

Michael Vaughan's Reaction to Kohli's Retirement
Former England captain Michael Vaughan has voiced his profound disappointment following Virat Kohli's announcement of his retirement from Test cricket on Monday. Kohli concluded his illustrious Test career with a remarkable tally of 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, which includes 30 centuries.
Vaughan's Thoughts on Kohli's Impact
In his column for a prominent publication, Vaughan expressed, "It's rare for me to feel genuinely saddened by a player's retirement, but I am truly upset that we won't see Kohli play in England this summer or in whites again."
Reflections on Kohli's Captaincy
Vaughan shared his shock at Kohli's decision to retire, stating, "In my over 30 years in the sport, I don't think anyone has contributed more to Test cricket than Virat." Under Kohli's leadership, India secured 40 victories out of 68 Tests, and Vaughan believes the format will be significantly less vibrant without him.
He recalled his concerns when Kohli took over the captaincy, fearing that India was losing interest in Test matches.
Kohli vs. Dhoni: A Comparison
Vaughan compared Kohli's captaincy to that of MS Dhoni, noting, "While Dhoni was a great white-ball player, it seemed he led a Test team that lacked passion for the format. The game requires India to be deeply invested in Test cricket, which is what Kohli cultivated as captain."
Dhoni captained the Indian Test team from 2008 to 2014, leading in 60 matches with 27 wins and a win percentage of 45%. Vaughan emphasized that although Dhoni was a successful captain, Kohli revitalized the Indian Test team and made a lasting impact on the format.
