Mercedes-Benz has initiated a recall for several models, including the EQS Sedan, GLS, AMG SL55, and S-Class, due to potential fire hazards. This recall, the sixth of the year, affects around 30 vehicles that may be at risk of spontaneous combustion. The company has identified issues with improperly rewired fuse boxes that could lead to sudden loss of propulsion and instrument cluster failures, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Mercedes-Benz Recall Announcement

Mercedes-Benz has announced a significant recall affecting its EQS Sedan, GLS, AMG SL55, and S-Class models due to potential fire hazards. This marks the sixth voluntary recall initiated by the luxury automaker this year. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), approximately 30 vehicles are at risk of spontaneous combustion.

The manufacturer has indicated that improper rewiring of the fuse boxes could lead to failures in connected systems, resulting in a sudden loss of propulsion. Additionally, this issue may impact the instrument cluster, heightening the risk of accidents and injuries. Consequently, the possibility of a thermal incident occurring within the vehicle cannot be ruled out.

Mercedes has identified around 16 affected EQS sedans, along with 9 S-Class models (including Maybach), three GLCs, and two AMG SLs. The company plans to reach out to owners of these models to arrange appointments for repairs at no cost.

Model Fuel Type Manufactured From Manufactured Until
S-Class /Maybach Petrol June 22, 2023 March 20, 2024
AMG SL Petrol July 5, 2023 August 28, 2023
GLC Petrol & Diesel September 9, 2023 December 4, 2023
EQS Electric July 19,2023 April 8, 2024

This recall follows previous announcements on March 12 and 29, which were also related to fire risks. Other recalls this year addressed issues such as software glitches in the ECU and missing warning labels for the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff. Frequent recalls may impact consumer confidence in the German automotive brand.
