Protest Against Military Actions

On Wednesday, Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), led a protest in Srinagar. The demonstration was in response to the ongoing military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, as well as the assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During the protest, supporters of Mufti carried posters of Khamenei and shouted slogans against the US and Israel. Additionally, Mufti burned posters of Jeffrey Epstein, an American financier who died in 2019 while facing sex trafficking charges and was linked to several high-profile individuals, including Donald Trump.

Social Media Engagement

Later, she shared a video of the protest on social media, stating, "I stand in peace with those who stand in peace with you, and in opposition to those who oppose you, until the Day of Judgment," along with images of the burning posters. Mufti has been vocal in her criticism of the attacks on Iran since the onset of hostilities. In several posts, she accused the Indian government and the National Conference-led administration in Jammu and Kashmir of remaining silent on the "open aggression" by the US and Israel against Iran and the assassination of its Supreme Leader. She emphasized that just because the Indian government and the Jammu and Kashmir administration have chosen to remain silent does not mean that those who speak out should be treated as criminals.

Escalating Conflict

This protest comes at a time when the conflict between Iran, the US, and Israel has entered its fifth day. On Wednesday, Tehran experienced severe explosions following attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities and retaliatory strikes in the Gulf region. Air raid sirens were activated in Bahrain, while Iran launched ballistic missiles at Qatar, with one reportedly landing near the Al-Udeid base, fortunately causing no casualties. Reports of explosions around Jerusalem followed Israel's interception of incoming missiles. The ongoing conflict has resulted in approximately 800 fatalities in Iran and 11 in Israel, with additional Israeli strikes in Baalbek, Lebanon, leading to at least four deaths and over 50 casualties in Lebanon, with more than 300 injured.
