Shillong, Oct 26: The number of voters in Meghalaya has decreased by 7.05% following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, with the final count now at 21,83,963.
Prior to this revision, the state had 23,49,645 registered voters, indicating that 1,65,682 names were removed from the rolls, as reported by officials.
BDR Tiwari, the Chief Electoral Officer, explained that the purpose of this revision was to ensure that all eligible voters are accounted for while eliminating those who do not meet the criteria.
During this process, the Election Commission generated 6,51,736 notices, and all hearings related to these notices have been concluded.
Additionally, the EC received 21,694 applications for inclusion via Forms 6 and 6A, 2,276 requests for transfers through Form 8, 2,526 deletion requests via Form 7, and 12,860 correction applications through Form 8.
The Election Commission has encouraged voters to check their names in the final electoral roll using the Voters' Service Portal, the ECINET mobile app, or by contacting their local Booth Level Officers.
To ensure that no eligible voter is overlooked, special enrollment camps will be organized across various districts, officials confirmed.
Citizens whose names are absent from the final list can apply for enrollment using Form 6, provided they meet the necessary statutory requirements.
