Chief Minister Commends Police Efforts

Shillong, June 11: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, praised the state police for successfully solving the murder of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, revealing that they possess substantial evidence linking the victim's wife to the crime.

“Numerous pieces of evidence and facts are emerging. It took the police several days to connect the dots and identify the missing links. Ultimately, the evidence points towards Sonam (Raghuvanshi’s wife),” Sangma stated during a press conference in Shillong.

Following their wedding on May 11 in Indore, Raja and Sonam traveled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They went missing on May 23, just hours after checking out from a homestay in Nongriat village, located 20 km from where Raja's body was discovered on June 2.

“We left nothing to chance,” the Chief Minister remarked, emphasizing that the Meghalaya Police approached the investigation in a methodical and organized manner.

“I prefer not to delve into excessive details. However, the evidence is robust and technology-driven, including phone records and messages. We will soon hear statements from the arrested suspects,” he added.

Sangma expressed his disappointment over some individuals blaming the “peace-loving residents of Sohra, Meghalaya, and the entire North East” following the murder.

“It is acceptable to criticize the Government and the police. What truly hurt us was the negative perception cast upon the entire North East,” he remarked.

“This is a challenging time for the family and our community. We must move forward, and I encourage everyone to visit the North East. Unity is our strength,” Sangma concluded.

Sonam was located in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday night, where she surrendered at the Nandganj Police Station. This occurred after the arrests of Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22), and Anand Kurmi, who were apprehended in connection with the murder in UP and Indore.

Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), identified as the alleged mastermind, was arrested subsequently, according to police reports.

Kushwaha and the three other suspects are currently in the transit custody of the Meghalaya Police.
