Shillong, Oct 23: The Meghalaya Police have requested additional central paramilitary forces following a petrol bomb attack on the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Shyiap early Thursday. This incident marks the fourth attack in Shillong within a span of 48 hours.
The bomb struck the steps of the building, resulting in broken window panes, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
SP (City) Dangsan Khyriem stated, “We are actively searching for the perpetrators,” noting that no motives have been identified for these attacks as of yet. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to track down the individuals responsible.
Prior incidents since October 20 occurred in areas such as Kench's Trace, Keating Road, Laitumkhrah, and Langkyrding. Police confirmed that these earlier attacks did not result in any injuries or significant damage.
Khyriem mentioned, “Despite ongoing naka checking, mobile patrols, and foot patrols throughout Shillong and its outskirts, a petrol bomb was still thrown in Langkyrding yesterday, although it caused no damage.”
To ensure public safety and maintain order, the police plan to enhance their naka checking and patrolling efforts. “We will continue our nakas, increase their frequency, and have requested central forces starting today. Our priority is to keep the public safe and ensure law and order,” he added.
Authorities have initiated a case and are analyzing CCTV footage along with other evidence as part of their investigation.
